Distributed Generation Owner Operator Forum

Meeting notes & slides from previous events

We hold a regular forum aimed at owners and operators of MW scale renewables connected to our network. Working in partnership with Regen, these meetings provide an opportunity for DG owners and operators to engage with us, contribute towards improved processes and tackle arising issues

Previous areas of discussion have included:

  • Our work to address grid constraints;
  • Improving communication with generators on outages and constraints; and
  • Potential approaches for forecasting and mitigating outages.

Interim queries

For day to day outage queries or issues of a non-urgent or general enquiry, please contact the nominated person detailed on the 4-week generator report or via the following email in boxes:

Please also ‘copy-in’ the appropriate email address for the area in which the generator site is located.

For any out of hours enquiries, system faults or should the enquiry be urgent in nature, please contact us directly via:

  • South Wales connected generation - 02920 332843

  • East Midlands connected generation - 0845 266 1722
  • West Midlands connected generation - 0845 266 1688

Generator portal

In addition, access to our generator portal is available via our website, for visibility for future outages/export constraints and general background information for each generator site. This information is focussed, at the moment, for generator connections at 33kV, 66kV and 132kV.

Please visit generation.nationalgrid.co.uk for more information.

Should you have not yet signed up to access the generator portal, or if any contact details (and gate access codes etc.) have changed for a generator site within our area please contact nged.swestwalesgen@nationalgrid.co.uk (Monday to Friday). Please also ‘copy in’ the appropriate email address for the area in which the generator site is located.

To register for the generator portal, please provide a unique email account for your business which has to be available for all appropriate staff within your business to use contact nged.swestwalesgen@nationalgrid.co.uk (Monday to Friday).

Lost Generation - outages and constraints

As part of the 2017 ICE plan we developed a methodology for estimating the lost generation for wind and solar generation sites as a result of outages on our systems. This report estimates lost generation in MWh and compares this to the total output of these generation technologies.

Building on the work of the 2017 ICE plan, in 2018 we developed a methodology for estimating what the potential cost of lost generation as a result of outages on our systems. This report makes estimations of lost income based on published rates of Feed-in Tariff (FIT) or Renewables Obligations (RO) subsidies, wholesale power values and Generation Network Charge Credits (G-Duos) rates. Further details about the workings of the model are available in the October 2018 DG forum meeting notes and slides, found in the list above.
